Amsted Rail agrees to acquire Amsted Rail-Faiveley brake components business

Amsted Rail announced Oct. 28 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% ownership of the Amsted Rail-Faiveley brake component business for freight cars.

Amsted Rail, GE form strategic partnership

Amsted Rail and GE Transportation have formed a joint venture “to combine GE’s experience in train management and locomotive monitoring with Amsted Rail’s expertise in onboard monitoring of railcar component condition,” the companies said in an announcement. It’s “the first ever integrated onboard train monitoring platform for the freight rail industry.”

Amsted Rail idling Bessemer wheel facility

Citing “reductions in new railcar demand and improved efficiencies of the railroads in North America for the foreseeable future,” Amsted Rail is temporarily idling its Bessemer, Ala., Griffin® wheel facility. Amsted Rail expects to accomplish this before the end of September 2016.
