Supply Side: Alstom, Bentley, Cattron/JMA Railroad Supply Co.

Alstom and Plastic Omnium are partnering to develop hydrogen storage systems for the rail market. In addition, infrastructure engineering software firm Bentley Systems has announced the finalists of its annual infrastructure awards program, and Cattron has selected JMA Railroad Supply Co. as its manufacturing representative.

Transit Briefs: Metrolinx, Caltrain, WMATA

Metrolinx has taken delivery of the last of 36 GO Transit bilevel commuter cars, which were ordered in September 2019. In addition, Caltrain service will surpass pre-pandemic levels starting Aug. 30, and Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMATA) is adding more trains and buses and extending operating hours beginning Sept. 5.

First Look: Alstom LRV Arrives for Toronto’s Finch West LRT

The first Alstom Citadis Spirit light rail vehicle has arrived for the C$2.5 billion (US$1.95 billion) Finch West LRT project in northwest Toronto. The 11-kilometer (6.8-mile) line is slated to open in 2023.

Alstom will receive a $3.4 million federal grant to expand its Hornell, N.Y., manufacturing facility. In addition, Grignard Pure LLC’s antimicrobial air treatment solution has received EPA approval for use in intrastate transit and transportation applications, and Nexxiot has teamed with TransRail Innovation Group (TRIG) to provide freight car monitoring.

Supply Side: Alstom, Navis

Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works has awarded Alstom an approximately $140 million signaling upgrade contract for the Metromover. In addition, Navis is accepting entries for its fourth-annual Inspire Awards program; the deadline is Aug. 20.

New HSR NEC Trainsets Delayed. Amtrak Explains Why

Revenue service of Amtrak’s new Alstom-built high-speed Northeast Corridor trainsets, originally slated for Fall 2021, has been delayed until early Spring 2022. Combined COVID-19-related supply chain problems and technical glitches currently being addressed have caused the delay. Amtrak responded immediately to Railway Age’s specific technical questions.
