Kansas City Southern has submitted a letter to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) committing to setting a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target.

Bombardier Wins Maintenance Contract for Toronto’s Finch West LRT

Mosaic Transit Group (MTG) has awarded Bombardier Transportation a 30-year contract to maintain light rail vehicles and wayside track and catenary systems for the new C$2.5 billion (US$1.95 billion) Finch West LRT project in northwest Toronto. The 11-km (6.8-mile) line is a P3 of Infrastructure Ontario; Metrolinx; and MTG, a joint venture of ACS Infrastructure and AECON that has a DBFM (design, build, finance, maintain) contract.

Wabtec’s Metroflexx Receives TÜV SÜD Certification

TÜV SÜD, an independent testing and certification authority, has certified Wabtec Corp’s new Metroflexx brake, which the company calls “next-generation braking systems for the mass transit rail industry.” The certification “validates that the system meets the safety, quality and performance standards set at an organizational, local or international level.”

WMATA Sidelining 6000-Series Cars

Washington Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is temporarily sidelining its fleet of 6000-series rapid transit cars after an early Nov. 24 train-separation incident on the Red Line. An investigation is under way; there were no reported injuries.

First Look: REM Light Rail Vehicle for Montreal

The project office of Montreal’s automated light rail network, Réseau express métropolitain (REM), has officially unveiled the first four light rail vehicles. The 67-km (41.6-mile) network is expected to begin partial service in 2022 with full operation in 2024 with 26 stations, connecting downtown Montreal to the South Shore, North Shore, West Island and Montreal-Trudeau International Airport.
