Solid U.S. rail freight traffic growth marked the last week of May—ending June 1, 2013, as measured by the Association of American Railroads—and the entire month, AAR said Thursday, June 6.
AAR fires at NITL over forced switching proposal
Like a U.S. Navy destroyer unleashing all of its weapons simultaneously, the Association of American Railroads has launched a strongly worded attack on the National Industrial Transportation League’s proposal to the Surface Transportation Board for “forced switching,” also known as “mandated access,” “mandatory switching,” and “forced competition.”
AAR: Crude oil, intermodal up in latest week
Resuming a familiar pattern during the week ending May 25, 2013, U.S. freight carload traffic fell 3.3% measured against the comparable week in 2012, while U.S. intermodal volume rose 1.4%, the Association of American Railroads reported Thursday, May 30.
U.S. intermodal, carload traffic up, AAR says
U.S. freight traffic scored solid gains during the week ending May 18, 2013, the Association of American Railroads said May 23. U.S. freight carload traffic advanced 1.9% measured against the comparable week in 2012, while U.S. intermodal did even better on a percentage basis, up 3.5%.
AAR confers environmental stewardship awards
The Association of American Railroads on May 15 presented Rick McNey, a CSX Transportation employee from Baltimore, Md., with the 2013 John H. Chafee Environmental Excellence Award, and U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) with the 2013 John H. Chafee Congressional Environmental Award.
AAR notes U.S. freight traffic gains
U.S. freight carload traffic rose 0.6% in the week ending May 11, 2013, the Association of American Railroads reported Thursday, May 16, as U.S. intermodal volume continued its winning ways, up 3.9%, combining for a winning week overall, with total U.S. traffic up 2.1%.
AAR: Petroleum gains pace weekly, year-to-date volume increases
The Association of American Railroads has reported an increase in traffic for the week ending May 4, 2013, with total U.S. weekly carloads of 283,916 up 2.8%, compared with the same week last year. Intermodal volume for the week totaled 245,678 units, up 2.8% compared with the same week last year. Total U.S. traffic for the week was 529,594 carloads and intermodal units, up 2.8% compared with the same week last year.
