For the week ending June 4, 2016, AAR reports total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 455,346 carloads and intermodal units, down 17.3% compared with the same week last year.

Carload traffic down 10.3% for May
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) announced its monthly rail freight traffic report for May, and the week ending May 28, 2016. The figures, as expected, haven’t improved.

North American rail freight traffic remains in the doldrums, the Association of American Railroads reported for the week ending May 21, 2016.
U.S. weekly rail traffic down 9.2%
For the week ending May 14, 2016, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 498,379 carloads and intermodal units, down 9.2% compared with the same week last year, according to the Association of American Railroads.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending May 7, 2016: Total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 492,923 carloads and intermodal units, down 10.6% compared with the same week last year.
AAR: Freight traffic slump continues
For April 2016, combined U.S. carload and intermodal originations were 1,972,829, down 11.8% or 264,327 carloads and intermodal units from April 2015, reported the Association of American Railroads on May 4, 2016. Carload traffic in April totaled 944,339 carloads, down 16.1% or 180,598 from April 2015. U.S. railroads also originated 1,028,460 containers and trailers in April 2016, down 7.5% or 83,729 units from the same month last year.
