Weekly carloads gain, no thanks to coal
Total U.S. rail traffic was 548,264 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.1% for the week ending Oct. 14 compared with the same week in 2016, according to the Association of American Railroads.

Double-digits for intermodal traffic
The Association of American Railroads said total U.S. rail traffic for the week ending October 7 was 554,826 carloads and intermodal units, up 6.3% compared with the same week in 2016. Traffic included 269,336 carloads, up 2%, while intermodal volume was 285,490 containers and trailers, up 10.8%.
Record US, Canada intermodal volume
The Association of American Railroads said U.S. rail volumes for the week ending September 23 set a new record for intermodal traffic in both the U.S. and Canada. Total U.S. traffic was 548,204 carloads and intermodal units, up 1.6% compared with the same week in 2016.
While U.S. carloads wane, Canada volumes gain
Canadian railroads posted historic volume while U.S. railroads saw carloads reverse mostly year-long gains, as the Association of American Railroads said U.S. rail traffic for the week ending September 16 totaled 530,774 carloads and intermodal units, down 1.4% from the same week a year ago.
Narrow gains for U.S. carloads
Traffic on U.S. railroads totaled 486,474 carloads and intermodal units, up 0.8% compared with the same week in 2016.
Ore up 11.5% in weekly carloads
Intermodal traffic again outpaced overall rail freight for the week ending August 26 as imports flowed in for the retail holiday season, according to the Association of American Railroads.
Containers, trailers lead carload gains
The Association of American Railroads reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending August 19 was 554,021 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.4% from the same week a year ago.
Intermodal up 5.1% in AAR weekly carloads
Total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 548,790 carloads and intermodal units for the week ending August 12, up 2.75% compared with the same week in 2016.

The Association of American Railroads and advocacy organization GoRail have honored Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) with the Railroad Achievement Award.
Aggregate, minerals lead weekly AAR carloads
The Association of American Railroads said U.S. rail traffic for the week ending Aug. 5, 2017 totaled 554,822 carloads and intermodal units, up 4.3% compared with the same week a year ago.
