More mixed U.S. freight traffic, AAR reports

U.S. intermodal volume continues to shine as 2013 establishes itself, up 1.6% for the week ending Jan. 26, 2013, measured against the comparable week in 2012, according to the Association of American Railroads. AAR on Thursday noted that offset the ongoing lackluster performance in U.S. freight carload volume, down 6.3% for the week compared with a year ago.

U.S. freight traffic stays mixed in latest week

U.S. freight carload traffic for the week ending Jan. 19, 2013 was down 3.5% measured against the comparable week in 2012, the Association of American Railroads said Thursday. U.S. intermodal volume kept its positive run going and then some, however, rising 13.5 compared with levels of one year ago.

More in keeping with overall 2012 trends, U.S. intermodal volume for the week also advanced, up 10.2% when measured against the comparable week in 2011.

U.S. intermodal rebounds in latest week

U.S. intermodal volume for the week ending Dec. 15 returned to the plus column it has been in for much of 2013, the Association of American Railroads said Thursday. U.S. intermodal moves were up 8% measured against the comparable week in 2011.

Obituary: Dr. William J. Harris, 94

Dr. William J. Harris, who contributed to several industry improvements and who served with the Association of American Railroads from 1970 to 1985, died Dec. 5 at age 94 at his home in East Falmouth, Mass.

UIC honor bestowed to TTCI FAST program

The Association of American Railroads Tuesday lauded the Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI) on its receipt of the International Union of Railways’ (UIC) Innovation and Railway Research Award in the “Rail Freight Services” category for the Facility for Accelerated Service Testing (FAST) Program.
