U.S. intermodal volume continues to shine as 2013 establishes itself, up 1.6% for the week ending Jan. 26, 2013, measured against the comparable week in 2012, according to the Association of American Railroads. AAR on Thursday noted that offset the ongoing lackluster performance in U.S. freight carload volume, down 6.3% for the week compared with a year ago.
U.S. freight carload traffic for the week ending Jan. 19, 2013 was down 3.5% measured against the comparable week in 2012, the Association of American Railroads said Thursday. U.S. intermodal volume kept its positive run going and then some, however, rising 13.5 compared with levels of one year ago.
For the second week of 2013 (and the first week fully within the calendar year), U.S. freight traffic mirrored its most common measure through most of 2012: U.S. carload freight fell; U.S. intermodal volume advanced.
Both U.S. freight carload traffic and U.S. intermodal volume declined for the week ending Dec. 29, 2012—essentially the end of the year—the Association of American Railroads said Thursday.
U.S. freight carload traffic, falling short of 2011 totals through most of this year, notched a 0.9% rise in the week ending Dec. 22, 2012, the Association of American Railroads said Thursday. More in keeping with overall 2012 trends, U.S. intermodal volume for the week also advanced, up 10.2% when measured against the comparable week in 2011.
