Amtrak restores Texas Eagle service

Written by Railway Age Staff

Amtrak has restored some Texas passenger services after rain and flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey disrupted operations.

Temporary track closures have ended, enabling service by the Amtrak Texas Eagle (Trains 21/421 and 22/422) between San Antonio and Fort Worth, the carrier said in an announcement August 31. The San Antonio-Chicago train operates on Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway track through Austin, Fort Worth, Dallas and Little Rock, Ark.

Amtrak said the Sunset Limited (Trains 1 and 2) is still unable to operate east of San Antonio due to temporary track closures, terminating and originating in San Antonio rather than New Orleans. No alternate transportation is available between San Antonio and New Orleans. While Amtrak Thruway Buses Routes 6021 and 6022 remain cancelled, the Amtrak station in Houston is operating.
