Contract set for Second Avenue Subway station
Written by Douglas John BowenNew York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority Friday said it had awarded a $258 million contract to Judlau Contracting, Inc., to tackle mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and finishing work for the 72nd Street Station, part of New York's Second Avenue Subway project.
The contract is the ninth of 10 to be awarded for Phase I of the Second Avenue Subway, running from 63rd Street to 96th Street. MTA New York City Transit will extend its Q train north from 63rd Street when the line opens.
MTA New York City Transit emphatically insists the new line will open in 2016, despite some construction delays. Repeated attempts to advance the Second Avenue Subway, which date back to 1929, have generated local folklore about the project involving its phantom nature, which MTA and others are eager to overcome.
