Wisconsin Sierra Club argues for HrSR
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefWisconsin Sierra Club plans a series of demonstrations Saturday in support of higher-speed rail (HrSR) plans for the Badger State, now likely to be rejected by Gov.-elect Scott Walker, who has vowed to reject federal funding support for any passenger rail improvement.
Organized rallies are scheduled to occur in Milwaukee, the state’s largest city, in Madison, the state capital, and in Oshkosh. All events were scheduled to begin at noon.
“Will we modernize our transit system, and create a safe, convenient, fast way to travel throughout the Midwest? Will we create thousands of jobs, increase our property values, and spur our economy? Will we take 500,000 cars off of the road and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 190,000 metric tons by 2020?” Sierra Club asked in its press release. “Or will we return over $800 million in federal grant funding, say no to 9,570 permanent jobs for Wisconsin and continue our dependence on oil? Speak out in support of the intercity, high speed rail and join us on Saturday, November 20th to help save the train!”
