Vermont Rail System taps RailComm
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefFairport, N.Y.-based RailComm said Monday it has been chosen to provide its Track Warrant Control (TWC) System for the Vermont Rail System.
Burlington, Vt.-based Vermont Rail System oversees five short lines: the Clarendon & Pittsford Railroad; Green Mountain Railroad; New York & Ogdensburg Railway; Vermont Railway; and Washington County Railroad.
RailComm’s state-of-the-art Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) train control system will be accessed through a web-enabled software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery. RailComm SaaS provides a “pay-as-you-go” model, thus eliminating capital equipment procurement constraints.
Through this state-of-the-art delivery, railroads can be remotely dispatched by the Vermont Rail System wherever an Internet connection is available. Therefore, it is possible to relocate the dispatchers to alternative locations as required.
Additionally, railroad management will be able to log in from the office, home, or even from a hotel and directly view dispatching activity and management reports. Since the DOC® control application resides on servers within the RailComm-managed data center in Rochester, N.Y., the requirement for local IT support at each railroad is greatly reduced.
