Two Amtrak trains collide in Oakland
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefAt least 16 people were injured, none critically, late Wednesday in Oakland due to a collision between two Amtrak trains, one of which ran a red signal, according to Amtrak.
With Amtrak’s Coast Starlight loading and unloading passengers at the station, an Amtrak San Joaquin train ran into the Coast Starlight at an estimated speed of 15 to 20 mph. The engine from each train reportedly derailed.
Oakland Fire Department Battalion Chief Emon Usher said several people were transported to nearby hospitals, though most injuries were minor.
