The Timken Company said Thursday it has received unconditional approval from the Association of American Railroads for the Class K EcoTurn® labyrinth seal, which essentially eliminates all seal torque with its revolutionary design.

“Rail operators who have a goal of running greener should consider equipping their cars with our new EcoTurn seal,” said Brian Ruel, vice president-rail for Timken. Ruel said the seal is one of the most critical and differentiating components affecting overall bearing and system performance. “The low-torque design offered by our EcoTurn seal provides lower and more consistent bearing operating temperatures,” he said, “and reduces emissions and fuel consumption.”

Along with the EcoTurn seal, Timken experts at Railway Interchange 2011 will offer presentations in Booth No. 3439 on topics including how loose backing rings can affect wheel set performance, and the value of bearing reconditioning through Timken.
