Position Objective
This position is responsible for assisting storeroom management in supervising the activities of Storeroom personnel in support of Metro-North Railroads Operating Departments.  Activities will include supervising the receipting, storage, security and issuance of materials and supplies, ensuring maximum availability and accountability.

Responsibilities
•    Assist storeroom management in the day-to-day activities in support of operations.  Daily communication with User departments and staff to ensure material availability.
•    Assists in resolving issues that might arise between user departments concerning material forecasts; potential overages and shortages; coordinates with Planning Staff on actions necessary.   
•    Assists Manager in developing systems and controls to monitor inventory distribution trends along with ways to improve efficiencies of workforce.
•    Monitors operating budgets for storeroom within department objectives.
•    Monitors and directs the work assignments and schedules for workforce under his/her jurisdiction.
•    Collaborates with management on employee safety programs, monitors safe work practices and ensures a safe work environment for employees.
    
Required Qualifications
•    Must be flexible to work at various storeroom locations as assigned
•    Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment
•    Must have the ability to analyze problems and take corrective action
•    Must be an effective communicator possessing good oral and written skills
•    Must have demonstrated good planning and organizational skills
•    Good leadership skills capable of supervising a diverse agreement workforce
•    Knowledge of safe work practices as they relate to a warehouse environment
•    Knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or comparable PC applications
•    Knowledge of automated inventory/warehouse management systems
•    Must have Valid Driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications
•    Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements
•    Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials/Supply Chain module
    
Required Education/Experience
•    Associates Degree in business, transportation, engineering or related field.  Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials may be considered in lieu of degree.
•    Minimum Two (2) years experience in a computerized material management environment, specifically material planning and/or warehousing.
•    Minimum 6 months experience supervising a support staff
