The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is seeking a Superintendent, Power, Signal and Communications to join our The Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation (PATH) team. The Superintendent will be working under the direct supervision of the Director / General Manager, PATH, the successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the PATH Power, Signal & Communications Division. The incumbent will be responsible for directing the Division in maintenance, construction and design activities; managing resources to achieve goals within budget; and prioritizing work assignments to meet project objectives.
Responsibilities include: Ensuring safety and continuity of rail transit operations through integrity of traction power, train control, communications, and electrical systems and facilities. Maximizing efficiency and capacity of these systems to provide excellent customer service and meet demands of increasing ridership totaling over 76 million customers annually. Ensuring that systems and facilities contribute to improvements in safe, reliable, on-time performance, with efficiencies in annual operating and maintenance costs through effective resource management. Implementing capital improvements to enhance PATHs Business Plan. Overseeing of the replacement of the entire existing signal system with a new Automatic Train Control System. Overseeing the Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for traction power; remote manual and automatic train routing and signal system facilities; fiber optic communications and switching; radio and telecommunications facilities; closed circuit TV (CCTV) video switching and recording; and customer information displays (PATHVISION); electrical facilities. Eligible Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Management, or related field required. Applicants meeting the rapid transit experience stated below without graduating from college or holding a degree in an unrelated academic discipline will be considered with a minimum 15 years progressive management or supervisory experience in design, engineering, construction, testing and/or maintenance of rail transit train control/signal, communication, and/or traction power systems required. Professional Engineers License in New York or New Jersey
JOB REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate will present the following qualifications profile: Extensive knowledge of Railroad or Transit Signal and Train Control Systems operation, maintenance, installation, and testing. Thorough knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration and Federal Communications Commission, and industry standards. Technical knowledge of development and management of facility maintenance program. Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and codes. Thorough knowledge of business and financial analysis, cost/schedule estimating, project management and current technology trends. Excellent oral and written communications and presentations skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, effective motivational skills, and experience in successfully working with diverse employee groups and organizations. Demonstrated ability in problem analysis and resolution and labor relations. Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with all levels of management staff, and external contacts and agencies. Demonstrated ability to make prudent, independent decisions under unusual circumstances and pressures.
