RailAmerica, Inc.: September monthly carloads up

RailAmerica, Inc.,reported that its total freight carloads for the month ended September 30, 2010were 72,833, up 8.0 percent from 67,410 in September 2009. These resultsinclude the Ottawa Valley Railway operation.


The company had increasedshipments in September 2010 in eight out of 12 commodity groups compared toSeptember 2009. Much of the increase was due to shipments of metallic ores andmetals, chemicals and coal. Metallic ores and metals carloads increasedprimarily due to higher shipments in the Northeast and Southeast regions.Chemical volumes were up primarily due to increased shipments in the Midwest,Northeast and West regions. Coal carloads increased primarily due to highershipments in the Northeast region and Central U.S.The larest declines were in moror vehicles and petroleum.
