NJT begins new TVM rollout

New Jersey Transit has announced the post-pilot-program rollout of its new ticket vending machine (TVM) technology at Newark Penn Station, “kicking off a system-wide rollout that will provide smoother ticket purchase transactions for NJT customers at all 674 terminals system wide by the end of the year,” said Executive Director Jim Weinstein.

Alstom finalizes Ottawa

Alstom Transport has finalized a contract to provide 34 light rail vehicles and 30 years of maintenance services to the Rideau Transit Group (RTG) consortium that was selected to design, build, finance, and maintain the first line of the C$2.1 billion Ottawa Light Rapid Transit (OLRT) system, the Confederation Line.

Bombardier’s TrackSafe wins innovation awards

Bombardier Transportation has won two international innovation awards for its TrackSafe technology designed to improve safety and productivity for railway track workers. Bombardier received one of 15 Innovation Awards presented by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to companies across a wide variety of engineering and technology disciplines. The competition attracted 430 entries from 25 countries.

CN, AMT spar over Montreal locomotive use

A dispute over locomotive operations in the Montreal metropolitan area is pitting CN against regional rail operator Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT). CN, which owns right-of-way used by AMT, is prohibiting the operation of AMT’s ALP-45DP locomotives.
