AAR: U.S. Rail Volume Up for 2024

For the 52-week period ending Dec. 28, 2024, total U.S. rail traffic of 25,178,586 carloads and intermodal units was up 3.4% from same point in 2023, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR). This is based on intermodal gains (up 9.3% to 13,842,174 units) compensating for carload losses (down 2.9% to 11,336,412 units).
