New oil-gas rail terminal on tap for Texas

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P. and Martin Midstream Partners L.P. have formed a joint venture, Pecos Valley Producer Services LLC, to develop a rail terminal in Pecos, Tex., to serve the growing oil and natural gas industries in the Permian Basin.

In case you haven’t figured this out already, the urban rail transit mode currently in vogue these days is … streetcars! AAR: U.S. freight traffic slumps in latest week

U.S. freight carload traffic for the week ending Feb. 18, 2012 declined 5.2% measured against the comparable week in 2012, the Association of American Railroads said Thursday. U.S. intermodal volume for the week also retreated, down 5.6%, compared with the same week last year.

STB slates hearing on effect of BNSF purchase price

The Surface Transportation Board announced that it will hold a public hearing March 22 “to explore the impact of the Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. acquisition of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. on certain costing determinations.” The board will look at the effect of the $43 billion purchase price on its annual Uniform Rail Costing System (URCS) and revenue-adequacy findings for BNSF.

CP seeks conciliation on legacy pension changes

Canadian Pacific on Friday requested the Federal Minister of Labour appoint a conciliator “to assist in progressing discussions on a new agreement, involving legacy pensions, with the union representing the company’s Canadian train crew employees and rail traffic controllers.”
