Twin Cities Metro Transit officials said Northstar commuter rail service was set to resume Tuesday following a freight train derailment that has disrupted service on the line.

northstar_logo.jpgA washout in Fridley, Minn., caused the derailment of a SNSF train early Saturday morning, causing the spillage of corn and diesel fuel. Heavy rains were blamed for the washout. As of Sunday, no fuel spilled by the incident had reached the Rice Creek, where the washout occurred, according to a BNSF spokeswoman.

Metro representatives were present at Northstar train stations Monday morning, guiding customers to alternate bus service being provided to downtown Minneapolis.
