The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) will present industry consultant Larry Gross with its 2024 Silver Kingpin Award at the Intermodal EXPO, to be held Sept. 9-11 in Long Beach, Calif.
The Silver Kingpin Award recognizes “an individual or individuals who have had a significant impact on the growth and advancement of the intermodal freight transportation industry,” according IANA. It was established in 1977 by the National Piggyback Association.
Gross is a veteran of the freight transportation sector with 43 years of experience. President of Gross Transportation Consulting in Durango, Colo., he is the author and creator of Intermodal in Depth, an analytical report covering the intermodal sector. His years as an industry consultant and observer were preceded by executive positions in intermodal equipment development and sales, including 27 years at Wabash National where he headed the RoadRailer intermodal product line.
“Larry’s contributions to the intermodal industry across his career have been significant,” IANA President and CEO Joni Casey said. “His work with the RoadRailer product was a fascinating chapter in the evolution of intermodal, and he has distinguished himself in recent decades as an unbiased source of industry intelligence for students, investors, intermodal practitioners and the general public.”
BNSF President and CEO Katie Farmer and Tiger Cool Express Chief Strategy Officer and Co-founder Ted Prince received the association’s Silver Kingpin Award in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
