Flood damage affects 12 SEPTA train cars

Flooding from Hurricane Irene has damaged 12 SEPTA electric multiple-unit (EMU) train cars parked on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor in Trenton, N.J. Local flooding, compounded by what SEPTA calls a switch problem, caused the cars to sit in high water for several days after the hurricane.

SEPTA said the damaged trains would not affect service frequency, but did note it may take considerable time to repair the equipment and return it to service.

Continuing severe weather Wednesday morning forced Amtrak to close its Keystone Corridor between Harrisburg and Philadelphia, also affecting SEPTA’s Paoli-Thorndale service.
