SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for ensuring that M/W equipment fleet is maintained in a continued state of readiness to support the infrastructure capital construction program as well as Divisional maintenance forces. Rationalizes existing fleet to maximize equipment usage. Manages equipment overhaul program. Prepares and implements the annual equipment acquisition program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the Engineering equipment safety program ensuring that equipment is safe to operate, load tested and complies with Federal safety standards. Mandates and outfits equipment with necessary apparatus to ensure the safety of the public, operating employees and equipment
- Responsible for supporting training program by ensuring equipment availability as well as maintaining a library of manufacturers specifications and instructions
- Directs 6 managers and 60 mechanics embedded with field construction forces deployed along 550 route miles of complex infrastructure providing running repairs as well as minor field overhauls.
- Directs 4 managers and 40 shop mechanics supporting field forces by performing large overhaul programs as well cycling through equipment coming off jobs in preparations for their next deployment
- Directs 4 managers and 40 mechanics deployed at various M/W bases to repair Divisional maintenance equipment as well as perform light overhauls
- Prepares and implements capital equipment acquisition program by using sound business case analysis. Directs and inspects equipment during vendor construction period. Tests and commissions new equipment. Accepts delivery on behalf of Amtrak.
- Manages a $22M annual operating budget and $12m annual capital budget.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Experience in competing for capital funds. 10-20 years experience supervising large organizations in the performance of operational / line duties. Experience in designing and implementing business processes.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in preparing and making effective presentations to all organizational levels.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Demonstrated experience communicating orally and in writing within and outside of the organization required.
