This key management position, reporting directly to the President, is responsible for managing the overall operations of RPRC’s Class 3, shortline rail activities in Richmond, California. With direct connections to the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad, RPRC supports a deep-water bulk cargo terminal in Richmond as well as numerous other customers.

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the growth of this innovative, privately held company. The successful candidate will be manage all aspects of running a rail operation including scheduling, locomotive maintenance and repairs, track maintenance, customer relations and business development. - Manage the formulation of switching schedules and deployment of crewmembers to ensure efficient daily car movement and the best use of individual and group capabilities.
- Manage the implementation of budgeted capital and major maintenance projects utilizing a combination of internal staff and outside contractors to ensure the timely completion of approved projects and maximized operating profitability.
- Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to direct reports and switch crews to foster professional development and teamwork.
- Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure FRA, CPUC, and environmental compliance within approved budgets and company guidelines.
- Manage overall rail safety program to maintain a safe and secure working environment and minimize or abate derailments and injuries. Responsible for policy implementation and enforcement.
- Work with Marketing on the development of new accounts and customer relations with existing accounts to ensure adequate new business and high customer retention.
- Work closely with marine terminal management and manpower to maximize the efficiencies of both rail and terminal operations..
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities
- A high degree of demonstrated interpersonal skills
- BS in Transportation and/or 10 years’ experience in managing railroad operations, shortline experience a plus
- Strong understanding of FRA, CPUC, and other state and federal regulations
- Multi-project management experience
- Familiarity with RMI software a plus
