Connecticut exercises 80-railcar option
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-Chief Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced that the state will exercise an option under a purchase agreement with Kawasaki to acquire 80 additional M-8 railcars valued at $226 million for the Metro-North and Shore Line East commuter fleets.
Already on order are 300 commuter rail cars, part of the state’s $1 billion public transportation investment since 2005.
The new purchase will include 24 cars for the Shore Line East line.
