Both CN and CP face possible strike

Both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific could face a strike by more than 6,000 members of the Canadian Auto Workers union, which represents workers within Canada’s two Class I railroads. CAW says its members have indicated they support a strike mandate in order to demonstrate their opposition to demands for concessions.

Negotiations with the two Class I railroads commenced in September and are still ongoing, set to resume Monday in Montreal.

CAW national representative Brian Stevens said the dispute with Canadian Pacific centers on a string of monetary and non-monetary issues, including the railway’s plans to close its Ogden shops in Calgary, Alberta.
