Bombardier Transportation orders hit record

Bombardier Transportation’s backlog of undelivered orders stood at a record $32.7 billion on Oct. 31, a 21% increase since the beginning of the year, said Pierre Beaudoin, president and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc., on Thursday as he announced results for the company’s third fiscal quarter.

bombardier_logo.jpgBeaudoin said orders received during the third quarter reached $3.7 billion, including one valued at $237 million to design, supply, and install a 24-kilometer (15-mile) INNOVIA Monorail 300 system in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for Companhia do Metropolitano de Sao Paolo. The group also signed a contract with Trenitalia of Italy for the delivery of 50 high speedtrainsets (400 cars) valued at $889 million. Bombardier Transportation also won a fourth contract, valued at $373 million, for 40 additional CRH1 high speed trains in China.

After the end of the quarter, the group signed a contract valued at $715 million to build 468 metro cars for Societe de transport de Montreal (STM).

Bombardier. Inc., which also has an Aerospace group, reported corporate net income of $143 million on consolidated revenue of $4 billion for the quarter compared to net income of $168 million on revenue totaling $4.6 billion for the prior-year period.

The backlog of undelivered orders stood at $48.9 billion on Oct.31, up from $43.8 billion as of January 31, 2010.
