Bombardier INNOVIA APM debuts in Guangzhou
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefBombardier Transportation said Monday that the company, in partnership with its customer, the Guangzhou Metro Corp. (GMC), Guangzhou Municipality, People’s Republic of China (PRC), has successfully delivered its INNOVIA APM 100 automated people mover (APM) system in Guangzhou into service. The 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) system is the first ever automated people mover system to be deployed in an urban environment in China, Bombardier says.
The dual-lane underground system will connect the Zhujiang Xincheng central business district of Guangzhou City with the flourishing Tianhe business and trade area, providing quick connections to first-class business and leisure facilities. Two of the system’s nine stations will provide connections to Line 3 of the Guangzhou City metro network.
Bombardier’s U.S. facility in Pittsburgh designed and supplied the 14 INNOVIA APM 100 vehicles (formerly known as CX-100) and the BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 automatic train control system. Bombardier says it designed 14 guideway switches and mechanical parts which were fabricated in China. Bombardier worked in partnership with GMC who supplied the power systems, communications and platform screen doors. GMC also carried out the design and construction of the tunnels and stations according to Bombardier specifications.
Bombardier China President and Chief Country Representative Jianwei Zhang said: “We are confident that the new urban INNOVIA APM system for the Zhujiang Xincheng district will provide exceptional levels of performance and fast connections for Guangzhou’s residents and tourists. I commend our Bombardier teams and our GMC customer who have all worked tirelessly to deliver this landmark project.”
Bombardier Transportation Vice President, Asia Pacific David Allen added, “Our fully automated and driverless INNOVIA APM system technology provides a visually attractive, highly reliable, low-noise, proven solution for urban transportation.”
