Bombardier gets go-ahead for SunRail gear

Florida’s Department of Transportation has given Bombardier Transportation notice to proceed with the design and manufacture of 14 BiLevel coaches and cab cars for the SunRail commuter rail project in central Florida.

bombardier_logo.jpgThe 61-mile, $1.2 billion SunRail service was approved by Florida Gov. Rick Scott July 1. Florida DOT gave Bombardier the go-ahead July 14.

Bombardier July 22 said the contract is valued at approximately $41 million and hasan option for up to six additional vehicles. Deliveries areplanned between May and August 2013.

SunRail becomes the 14th customer for Bombardier BiLevel cars, joining the ranks of Montreal’s Agence Metropolitaine de Transport (AMT), among other operators.
