Bombardier gets add-on order from V
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefBombardier Transportation said Thursday it has received an order for six new three-car BOMBARDIER REGINA high speed trains from Sweden’s Västtrafik, thus increasing the latter’s fleet to a total of 26 trains. The contract is valued at $101 million. Delivery will take place during 2013.
Västtrafik is a public transport company in West Sweden, overseeing regional trains, light rail, ferry service and bus operations in the county of Västra Götaland. Västtrafik’s fleet also includes the BOMBARDIER ITINO diesel multiple-unit (DMU) trains, in operation since 2006.
Bombardier said the service provided by REGINA trains in Gothenburg and Gävle istestament to a high level of availability—more than 99% of scheduled traffic—which is achieved by efficient maintenance and organization. Bombardier MITRAC propulsion and control equipment, featuring for example regenerative braking, saves up to 20% more energy than the previous generation of high speed trains, the company says. Radial steered bogies reduce track forces and thus minimize track wear and tear.
Lars Backström, managing director of Västtrafik, said: “Thanks to their comfort and proven reliability, the REGINA trains are highly appreciated by our passengers. As our region continues to experience strong passenger growth, we want to meet that demand with more of this type of trains, which we have good experience of.”
Klas Wåhlberg, president of Bombardier Transportation Sweden, said, “This new order confirms our continued strength in the Scandinavian market. We are proud that our customer has again placed its confidence in our high speed intercity REGINA trains, which offer the most reliable solution to the expanding number of passengers in the region.”
The trains’ European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) will be developed and engineered by Bombardier in Stockholm. In Germany, the trains will be assembled at Bombardier’s Hennigsdorf site, the car bodies will be produced in Görlitz, and the bogies in Siegen.
