Bombardier CBTC applied to Shenzhen metro
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefBombardier Transportation said Thursday it has delivered its CITYFLO 650 transit signaling system for the first phase of the Shenzhen Metro Line3 in southern China. This is the first application of Bombardier communication-based train control (CBTC) signaling technology on a steel-wheel, rail transit line in China.
Bombardier is executing the contract as a sub-supplier to Zhejiang Zheda Insigma Rail Transportation Engineering Co Ltd (INSIGMA), whose end customer is Shenzhen Metro No. 3 Line Investment Co., Ltd. Project scope for this first phase of delivery included equipping a 32-kilometer (20-mile), 22-station section of the line with the CITYFLO 650 CBTC system, and providing automatic train protection and operation (ATP/ATO) for trains. Delivery for Phase 1 was completed on schedule, within a time frame of 22 months, by Bombardier Transportation’s Rail Control Solutions teams in the U.S., Thailand, and China, Bombardier says. The line opened for service on Dec. 28.
The second phase of the system, adding 10 kilometers and 8 stations, is expected to be completed ahead of the Universiade (world university games) to take place in Shenzhen in August.
Anders Lindberg, president, Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation, said, “This milestone reinforces the excellent reputation of our CBTC technology globally and in China, a very important market for high-end mass transit signalling solutions. We have supplied CITYFLO solutions around the world, adapting our proven technology to the needs of our customers and we look forward to continuing to deliver our innovative technology.”
Jianwei Zhang, president and chief dountry representative, Bombardier China, added, “Bombardier Transportation is now a major supplier of rail transportation equipment in China. This latest installation further strengthens Bombardier’s presence in the Chinese signaling market and our expertise in the requirements of the mass transit rail control sector. I am confident in our continuous business expansion and success in China.”
