Phoenix tests Bombardier’s Sky Train

Bombardier Transportation's INNOVIA Automated People Mover 200 rolling stock began operations testing Monday on the Sky Train at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

The APM will connect airport passenger terminals with Valley Metro’s light rail transit line at 44th and Washington street. The first segment of the $644 million project, to open early next year, will link the LRT station to the east economy parking lot; the second phase will reach the passenger terminals by 2015.

Bombardier Transportation is designing and supplying all of the system-wide electrical and mechanical equipment for the Sky Train, including the CITYFLO 650 automatic train control. The fleet of 18 INNOVIA APM 200 vehicles will operate over 2.2 miles of mostly elevated dual-track guideway. Bombardier also will provide 10 years of operations and maintenance services.

Last October Bombardier Transportation announced the official opening of the new Bombardier INNOVIA APM 100 automated people mover system at the Sacramento International Airport.
