Former President and CEO of BNSF Carl Ice has been named into the Kansas Business Hall of Fame (KBHF). Also, Locomotive Engineer Thomas Demps, Jr., of CSX, has been honored for achieving 50 years of injury-free service; and Ashley N. Shelton has been appointed as the Railway Supply Institute’s (RSI) Senior Director of Government and Public Affairs.

NS Issues East Palestine Progress Report

RailState: Canadian Railroads ‘Close to Matching Volumes Seen Before B.C. Ports Strike’

In the month since the end of the main strike period at the B.C. Ports, Canadian railroads are “close to matching volumes seen before the strike,” reported real-time network visibility provider RailState, which independently tracks all freight movements across Canada.

In August 2021, the STB Office of Environmental Analysis issued a Final EIS for the project, identifying the 88-mile Whitmore Park Alternative as the environmentally preferred route for the Uinta Basin Railway, one of three analyzed. It would extend from two terminus points in northeastern Utah’s Uinta Basin near Myton and Leland Bench to a connection with the existing Union Pacific Provo Subdivision near Kyune (see map above).

Court Halts Uinta Basin Railway Project

FRA: Applications Open for STC Grant Program

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) on Aug. 18 reported that it will make available more than $139 million for projects that upgrade and safeguard rail infrastructure in Alaska, South Dakota and Wyoming through the Special Transportation Circumstances (STC) grant program.

Caltrain will exercise a contract option with Stadler to purchase a battery-equipped electric multiple unit (BEMU) train comprising three passenger cars and one battery-head housing the battery and power equipment.
