FY24 Appropriations Process Look-Ahead

When Congress returns from their August recess, they will have their hands full with the FY 2024 Appropriations process. With the end of the fiscal year quickly approaching on Sept. 30 and bills still moving through the committee process in both bodies, a Continuing Resolution will certainly be necessary to avoid any disruptions in government programs and funding.

AAR: North American Rail Volume Down Through 31 Weeks

For the first 31 weeks of 2023 (ending Aug. 5), total U.S. weekly rail traffic dipped 4.1% from the same point last year, according to the Association of American Railroads’ (AAR) Aug. 9 report. Both Canada and the U.S. saw declines, while Mexico saw an increase.

EPA Eyes Air Emissions Reporting Requirement Revisions

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing changes to its Air Emissions Reporting Requirements, which would involve state, local and certain tribal air agencies providing emissions data using different approaches and owners/operators of some facilities reporting additional emissions data.
