AAR replies to STB on proposed access regulation

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) on Jan. 13 responded to comments filed by a group of shippers to the Surface Transportation Board (STB) for new mandated reciprocal switching (“forced access”) regulation. The AAR believes this new regulation “would force railroads to turn their traffic over to competitor railroads.”

Siemens’ first S200 LRV arrives for SFMTA

On Jan. 16, Siemens delivered its first new S200 light rail vehicle to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). This is the first of the 215 LRV to arrive from Siemens’ manufacturing plant in Sacramento, Calif., en route to begin testing and service later this year. 

USDOT and Chicago Union Station move towards $1B redevelopment plan

Chicago announced Jan. 12 that the city, along with Amtrak, Metra, the RTA and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Build America Bureau are entering into an Emerging Projects Agreement (EmPA), towards the ultimate goal of seeking up to $1 billion in federal funding for the Union Station modernization project.
