SIGNET transportation expansion takes flight with Sparrow

SIGNET Electronic Systems, Inc., Norwell, Mass., a privately held systems integrator, has promoted Greg Sparrow to Vice President of Transportation Solutions. The move comes two years after he led the company’s entry into the transportation market and established its Transportation Solutions department.

CP: Bring on the grain

Canadian Pacific says it is ready to provide “best-in-class service” to grain shippers for Canada’s 2017-2018 crop year through “collaboration, communication and coordination.” The objective is “maximizing efficiency at the origin elevator and enhancing capabilities at the export terminal, all driving velocity in the rail portion of the complex grain supply chain.”

NYAB shifts some manufacturing to North Carolina

New York Air Brake LLC will be moving its Watertown, N.Y.-based peripheral product assembly to NYAB operations in Salisbury, N.C. The change is part of what the company describes as “a realignment strategy [of] North American manufacturing operations.”

Construction under way on NY Penn expansion

CSX, customers and STB: The letters keep flying

And some have petitioned the Surface Transportation Board and the House and Senate committees with responsibility for rail transportation to get involved. UP cutting 750 jobs

Union Pacific on Aug. 16 said that by mid-September, 750 jobs from its 42,000-person work force will be eliminated—500 from management, 250 from the rank and file—saving the railroad approximately $110 million annually in G&A (general & administrative) costs.

NS names Earhart EVP and CFO

Norfolk Southern has appointed Cynthia C. Earhart as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective Aug. 15, 2017. She succeeds Vice President and Controller Thomas E. Hurlbut, who served as interim CFO since Aug. 1, 2017, following the retirement of Marta R. Stewart.
