Spearing named to new HNTB post

HNTB Corp. has named Thomas J. Spearing III National Transit Program Management/Construction Management Practice Leader, a new position. He is based in Philadelphia.

KCS, Bulkmatic to launch Mexico refined energy products terminal

Kansas City Southern (KCS) and Bulkmatic Transport Company (Bulkmatic)—the former once again reaffirming the importance of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)—intend to form a 50/50 joint venture to “facilitate and expand the exportation of liquid fuels from the U.S. to Mexico.” The project will include construction of a unit train liquid fuels terminal located in Salinas Victoria near Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, and served by Kansas City Southern de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (KCSM).

Harvey hits BNSF hard

Catastrophic flooding in the Houston, Tex., area and other parts of southeastern Texas from Hurricane Harvey continues to cause major disruptions to BNSF Railway service and operations in the region. The storm has created water levels the likes of which have never been experienced before.

NS bridge inspection “drones” on

Norfolk Southern has one of the most comprehensive drone-based railroad bridge inspection programs in the nation, recently surpassing more than 100,000 linear feet. To conduct this safety-critical task, NS in early 2016 contracted with Virginia Beach, Va.-based HAZON Solutions, a leading U.S. developer of small, unmanned systems operations, capability development, training, safety and testing programs for drone inspection services.
