MTS gambles on new revenue source

San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) passengers can’t play slots, Poker or Bingo aboard the San Diego Trolley (well, maybe on their mobile devices). However, the LRT line that can get them to an area gambling casino—the Green Line—will be carrying that establishment’s name.

Dormsjo joins Louis Berger

Louis Berger has appointed former District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Leif Dormsjo as Senior Vice President for Infrastructure Asset Management. He is based in the company’s Washington, D.C. office.

CSX 3Q17 earnings call: “Back to where it was, and better”

At CSX’s third-quarter 2017 earnings call, President and CEO E. Hunter Harrison acknowledged the railroad’s recent service problems, but insisted that CSX has recovered and is in better shape operationally than when he came on board earlier this year.

Cowen railcar survey “largely neutral”

The results of Cowen and Company’s Third-Quarter 2017 Railcar Survey are a “net neutral,” based on several factors, according to Vice President Matt Elkott. The percentage of shippers responding to the survey planning to order railcars in the next 12 months declined slightly, but increased on a same-shipper basis, “which is a more relevant metric for measuring quarter-over-quarter changes in demand outlook.” As well, the level of certainty about ordering declined.

KCS forms Health, Safety and Environmental unit

Kansas City Southern has formed a new Health, Safety and Environmental group within the Operations department “to consolidate occupational health, workplace and public safety, and environmental functions under a single management to better align and coordinate with the company’s Operations groups,” KCS reported on Oct. 17.

Amtrak names Griffin Chief Marketing Officer

Airline industry marketing veteran J. Timothy “Tim” Griffin joined Amtrak on Oct. 16 as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for Marketing, Passenger Experience, Northeast Corridor Business Development, State Supported Services Business Development, Long Distance Services Business Development, and Product Support and Management. He will report directly to President and Co-CEO Richard Anderson, who also hails from the airline industry.
