CSX spins off two to OmniTRAX

CSX has sold the Alabama & Tennessee River Railway, LLC (ATN) and the Fulton County Railway, LLC (FCR) to HGS Railway Holdings Inc., a managed affiliate of OmniTRAX, Inc. Terms for the transaction were not disclosed. OmniTRAX has managed both short lines for several years. Operations are expected to continue unchanged following the acquisition.

San Diego Siemens Chargers

San Diego’s North County Transit District (NCTD) has ordered five new Tier 4-compliant Siemens Charger diesel-electric locomotives for service on Oceanside-San Diego Coaster regional/commuter trains. They will replace five older units originally built between 1975 and 1992 and purchased used by NCTD. The contract is worth more than $37 million.

Wallace, Sorfleet, Boone advance at CSX

CSX on July 9 announced three key executive appointments. Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Mark Wallace was appointed Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing, effective immediately. Chief Human Resources Officer Diana Sorfleet takes Wallace’s place, assuming responsibility for information technology, human resources, labor relations, executive compensation and aviation. Kevin Boone, who previously reported to Wallace, will continue as Vice President Corporate Affairs and Chief Investor Relations Officer, and will assume responsibility for the Corporate Communications function, reporting to President and CEO James Foote.

TRAC Intermodal fleet modernization presses on

Trac Intermodal, North America’s largest provider of intermodal marine equipment and biggest chassis pool manager, is adding more than 16,000 new and fully refurbished chassis to its various regional fleets, continuing a major modernization program that began in 2015 “to provide the intermodal industry with ease of access to high-quality equipment.”

AAR: Rail traffic “consistent with a healthy economy”

The Association of American Railroads (AAR), in reporting U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 30, 2018, as well as traffic for June 2018 and the year’s first half, noted that volume is keeping pace with a generally strong economy.

STV JV continues Cross Harbor study

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) has contracted with Cross Harbor Partners, an STV/AKRF Inc. joint venture, to prepare a Tier II Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) study for the Cross Harbor Freight Program, described as “a transformative goods movement product that strives to induce a modal shift away from trucks to reduce vehicle-miles traveled (VMT) and the attendant wear and tear on our region’s roadways and bridges.”
