FTA Awards $75 Million to Tempe Streetcar

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) awarded a $75 million Capital Investment Grant to Valley Metro for the Tempe Streetcar Project in Tempe, Ariz. The project, FTA said, “will improve mobility and transit service through the historic downtown Tempe area, which is the city’s government and financial center, linking riders to Arizona State University and Valley Metro’s existing light rail system.”

OmniTRAX, A&R Logistics Launch Atlanta Waterfront Terminal

OmniTRAX, Inc., and A&R Logistics, North America’s largest provider of integrated dry bulk logistics services for the chemical and plastic industries, are opening Atlanta Waterfront Terminal, a new transload facility located adjacent to OmniTRAX’s Fulton County Railway LLC tracks southwest of downtown Atlanta, Ga.

AAR: U.S. Traffic Downturn 38 Weeks and Counting

U.S. rail freight traffic numbers haven’t shown any signs of recovery for nearly nine months, down nearly 4% compared to 2018. Mexican traffic has also dropped, but not as severely as the U.S. On the bright side, Canadian traffic is experiencing at least some growth.

Mongeau Joins NS Board

Former CN President and CEO Claude Mongeau has been elected a director of Norfolk Southern Corp. Mongeau, 57, has been appointed to the Compensation Committee and the Finance and Risk Management Committee of the Norfolk Southern board and will serve as an independent director.
