Progress Rail to Acquire Cleveland Track Material

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, has signed an agreement to acquire Vossloh North America subsidiary Cleveland Track Material (CTM). With facilities located in Cleveland, Ohio; Reading, Pa.; and Memphis, Tenn.; CTM has served as a supplier of specialty trackwork to North American Class I and transit railroads since 1983.

Rail Projects Among Bentley Systems Year in Infrastructure 2019 Awards

Three rail projects—two Italy, one in the United Kingdom—have won Bentley Systems Year in Infrastructure 2019 Awards. The annual awards program honors the work of Bentley users advancing design, construction and operations of infrastructure throughout the world. Bentley Systems acknowledged 18 Year in Infrastructure Awards winners and nine Special Recognition Awards winners at the Oct. 24 at the conclusion of the Year in Infrastructure 2019 Conference in Singapore.

NYMTA Seeks Reorg Plan Consultants

The nation’s largest public transportation agency, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), on Oct. 25 issued an RFP (Request for Proposals) for one or more consultants to assist it with its Transformation Plan, described as “the first reorganization in more than half a century … that will position the agency to dramatically improve service, end project delays and cost overruns, and finally deliver the modern, reliable and efficient transportation system customers deserve.”

Thompson Joins MUL Railcars

Phillip W. Thompson has joined MUL Railcars, Inc. (MULR), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance Company Limited (MUL), as Vice President Business Development. Thompson comes to MULR from his most recent role as a Director in the Capital Markets group of Trinity Rail, where during eight years he held various roles in finance, strategy, capital markets and services. Chicago-based global container logistics company EagleRail Container Logistics has signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), Chattogram, Bangladesh, to begin transforming and improving throughput on CPA’s port roads and gates, described as “overcrowded and gridlocked.”

AAR Honors Rhode Island’s Reed

Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (T-HUD) Ranking Member Jack Reed has received the Railroad Achievement Award from the Association of American Railroads and GoRail “in recognition of his continued leadership on issues directly and indirectly affecting freight and passenger railroads.” AAR President and CEO Ian Jefferies presented Reed with the award on Oct. 22 in his Washington D.C. Senate office.

Hurontario LRT DBFOM Awarded to Mobilinx Consortium

The Mobilinx consortium, consisting of Hitachi Rail, Astaldi Canada Enterprises Inc., Salini-Impregilo S.p.A., John Laing Investments Limited, Transdev North America, Inc. and Amico Concessions Inc. and Bot Engineering & Construction Ltd., has signed a C$4.6 billion DBFOM (design, build, finance, operate and maintain) contract with Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx for the Hurontario LRT. The contract value includes approximately C$2.1 billion in total capital construction costs.

A&R Logistics Anchor Tenant at OmniTRAX’s SGIH

Affiliates of OmniTRAX, Inc. and The Broe Group have signed A&R Logistics, Inc. as anchor tenant at the Savannah Gateway Industrial Hub (SGIH), a master-planned, 2,750-acre industrial park owned by Effingham County Industrial Development Authority (ECIDA) with the capacity to accommodate up to 18 million square feet of industrial space.

J.B. Hunt 3Q19: PSR Helped—A Little

J.B. Hunt Transport’s (JBHT) third-quarter 2019 financials fell below expectations as, among other factors, “intermodal rail service appears to have improved, but not to the railroads’ goals associated with Precision Scheduled Railroading (PSR),” according to Cowen and Company analysts Jason H. Seidl (Managing Director and Railway Age Wall Street Contributing Editor), Matt Elkott and Adam Kramer.
