You Blew It, Andrew Cuomo

New York City Transit President Andy Byford resigned on Jan. 23. Andy was hired in January 2018 to improve and transform New York City’s 116-year-old subway, North America’s largest, and he was doing just that. But he got fed up with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who thinks he’s in charge of running New York’s railways. Now, someone else will have to carry on—if they’re capable—and that remains to be seen.

AAR, GoRail Honor Clyburn

The Association of American Railroads and GoRail have presented House of Representatives Majority Whip Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) the Railroad Achievement Award “for his longstanding leadership on surface transportation issues, including matters that directly and indirectly affect both freight and passenger railroads in South Carolina and across the nation.” AAR President and CEO Ian Jefferies presented Rep. Clyburn with the award at the North Charleston Intermodal Transportation Center.

WTS Chapter Honors HDR’s Reece

The Women’s Transportation Seminar Inland Empire Chapter (WTS-IE) has named HDR’s Lisa Reece as 2019 Woman of the Year, the first time in the chapter’s history that a woman from the private sector has been honored. Reece is the company’s transportation client development leader for Southern California.

ASLRRA: Yurasko New General Counsel; Reilly Signs On For PTC

Two experienced railroad professionals—Sarah Yurasko and Eileen Reilly—have joined the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) in legal and technology consulting roles, respectively. Yurasko is the Association’s new General Counsel, replacing Keith Borman, who retired after 15 years. Reilly’s company, Global Train Services LLC, has signed on as a consultant for Positive Train Control services.

Trinity Appoints E. Jean Savage CEO and President

Trinity Industries, Inc. has named E. Jean Savage Chief Executive Officer and President, effective Feb. 17, 2020. Savage, 55 and a member of the company’s board of directors since November 2018, comes to Trinity from the Surface Mining & Technology division of Caterpillar Inc., where she has been Vice President. She will remain a member of the Trinity board.
