Railway Age on April 30 received an unsolicited copy of an April 26 letter from Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen leadership mailed to the union’s general membership affected by the Dec. 13, 2019 Section 6 notice, advising them of a strike ballot. The source of the letter requested anonymity.

CHSRA Certifies Silicon Valley-Central Valley EIR/EIS

The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) on April 28 certified the Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) for the approximately 90-mile San Jose to Merced section in Northern California, approving the project. The move “is a critical milestone that moves the project section closer to being ‘shovel ready’ for when pre-construction and construction funding becomes available,” CHSRA said.

The Surface Transportation Board on April 29 issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), URCS Data Reporting (Docket No. EP 769), “to codify a longstanding voluntary practice of data reporting by the Class I carriers,” which through the Association of American Railroads (AAR) have annually reported tare weight and L&D (loss and damage) data for use in the Board’s Uniform Railroad Costing System (URCS).

Andreski Named Trinity Metro President, CEO

Richard Andreski, a public transportation veteran with 23 years of experience and more than 10 years of executive leadership, has been selected as the next President and CEO of Trinity Metro, Fort Worth, Tex. He assumes his new post June 20.

Gates Joins Shift5 as CRO

National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Energy (DOE) veteran Alexander Gates has joined Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity firm Shift5 as Chief Research Officer (CRO). Gates will oversee the company’s threat research portfolio, product security strategy and knowledge management efforts, “ensuring the distribution of Shift5 information as efficiently as possible.”
