Greenbrier debuts “Tank Car of the Future”

Members of the rail industry, the media, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) gathered at the GBW Railcar Services (a joint venture of The Greenbrier Companies and Watco Companies) tank and general repair facility in Hockley, Tex., on April 16, 2015, for the debut of Greenbrier’s “Tank Car of the Future.”

Denver’s new EMUs take “maiden voyage”

The Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) recently took delivery on its first set of 66 electric multiple-unit (EMU) cars from Hyundai-Rotem. The railcars took their maiden voyage on April 3, 2015, between Denver Union Station and Denver International Airport on the East Rail Line—pulled along the new 22.8-mile route by a Trackmobile railcar mover at 10 mph.

Parties formally “bridge” LRT gap in Minneapolis

In Minnesota, the Metropolitan Council has formally approved its agreement with Minnesapolis Parks and Recreation for a bridge to handle light rail transit (LRT) crossing the Kenilworth Channel.

AAR report: Freight rail “will carry the economy”

“The U.S. economy continues to grow, and strong demand for rail service demonstrates that the freight rail industry is integral to this growth,” the Association of American Railroads (AAR) declared Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, in releasing its 15-page 2015 Freight Rail Industry Outlook outlining the industry’s prospects.

Georgetown Rail Equipment Co. (GREX®) Founder and Chairman Emeritus Edwin de Steiguer “Ned” Snead passed away Jan. 22, 2015, in Georgetown, Tex. He was 85.
