McKinstry: Cold Train shrinks carbon footprint

Seattle-based energy and facility services firm McKinstry released a carbon analysis study confirming that the Cold Train refrigerated express intermodal service to/from the Port of Quincy Intermodal Terminal produces a smaller carbon footprint than shipping by long-haul truck to/from Quincy, Wash. The report validates a previous estimation of carbon emissions reported by BNSF’s Carbon Estimator Tool.

FRA’s Szabo: Safety gains keep on coming

Federal Railroad Administrator Joseph Szabo addressed the Railway Age/Parsons Transportation Group International Conference on Communications-Based Train Control on Feb. 5. He spoke about rail’s growing role in moving people and freight, as well as Positive Train Control’s role in improved railroad safety.

Metrolink set to get Tier 4 locomotives

Southern California’s Metrolink will receive funds from the Carl Moyer Program to procure up to 20 new low-emission Tier 4 locomotives. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) Governing Board committed to support Metrolink by approving the funds, which are not to exceed $34.66 million, on Friday, Feb. 1.

VMV Paducahbilt to expand Kentucky facility

NRC Acquisition Co. LLC, doing business as VMV Paducahbilt, a provider of new and remanufactured locomotives, locomotive products and wheel services, plans to expand its Paducah, Ky., operations, which should create 25 new, full-time jobs.
