UP begins intermodal service at Texas port

Union Pacific introduced its “Texas Shuttle” dedicated intermodal rail service between the Port of Houston Authority’s Barbours Cut Container Terminal and UP’s Dallas Intermodal Terminal facility, located 12 miles from downtown Dallas in the city limits of Wilmer, TX.

AAR: Railroads set safety record in 2012

The Federal Railroad Administration safety reports for 2012 are now complete, and the Association of American Railroads said Monday they show it was the safest year in the industry’s recorded history.

X Train hires HR director

Las Vegas Railway Express, Inc., hired Vicki DiBernardo as human resources director to head up the task of hiring, training and preparing the new employees for the X Train, which will need a team of approximately 100 employees to begin planned operations at the end of this year.

APTA: Record 10.5 billion trips taken on U.S. public transportation in 2012

The demand for public transportation rose last year as Americans took 10.5 billion trips, the second highest ridership since 1957, and 154 million more trips than the previous year, according to a report released today by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). This was the seventh year in a row that more than 10 billion trips were taken on public transportation systems nationwide.

FECI names All Aboard Florida officers

Florida East Coast Industries (FECI) on Monday announced the appointment of Donald C. Robinson as President and Chief Operating Officer for All Aboard Florida, the country’s first privately owned intercity passenger rail system, that will connect South Florida to Orlando. Additionally, P. Michael Reininger has been promoted to President and Chief Development Officer for All Aboard Florida. Mr. Reininger joined All Aboard Florida in 2012.
