The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) and Lineage, Inc., on Feb. 3 reported the addition of import services at the Jourdan Road cold storage facility in New Orleans (La.) East, which is served by New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB).

GDC Awards Manhattan Tunnel Project Contract

Frontier-Kemper-Tutor-Perini JV on Feb. 3 landed the $1.8 billion Manhattan Tunnel Project contract from the Gateway Development Commission (GDC) Board of Commissioners, which authorized the notice to proceed with construction. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with substantial completion anticipated in 2029.

CSX reports that service is resuming north of Spruce Pine, N.C., following Hurricane Helene; that its police agents are honored for heroic efforts during Human Trafficking Prevention Month; and that Diageo North America is building a beverage distribution plant at a CSX Select Site. Also, key BNSF service metrics for intermodal are improving despite recent challenges, and the Class I railroad’s Helena, Mont., team marks seven years injury-free.

Reintroduced: Bipartisan Bill to Boost Transit, Commuter Benefits

U.S. Reps. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) and Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) this month reported the reintroduction of the Supporting Transit Commutes Act (STCA), which they said would boost transit ridership by “incentivizing companies to offer commuter benefits for employees.”
