AAR: North American Rail Volume Up Through Week 14

For the first 14 weeks of 2025, ending April 5, North American carload and intermodal traffic was up 3.3% from the same point last year, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported April 9. The United States and Canada experienced gains, while Mexico saw a loss.

Port of Savannah: Busiest March on Record

The Port of Savannah, Ga., handled 534,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in March, rising 22.5% or 98,000 TEUs from the prior-year period and representing a second consecutive monthly record, Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) reported April 3. In intermodal cargo, it noted, Savannah set an all-time record of 52,645 containers moved by rail, a 17% gain over the same month last year.
