Total U.S. rail traffic was 434,361 carloads and intermodal units for Week 4 (ending Jan. 31, 2026), down 15.5% from the prior-year period, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported Feb. 4.

Rail infrastructure upgrades are nearing completion for the revival of Northlander service in Ontario, Canada.
