Amtrak and Southern Rail Commission (SRC) officials share updates on three passenger rail projects spanning Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. BLET Members Voting on Two New G&W Contracts

Contract ratification votes are under way for Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) members at Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad (M&NA) and Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR), both of which are Genesee & Wyoming (G&W) subsidiaries.

FRA: ‘High-Impact Wheels Causing Damage to Rails, Track Structures’

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) on Sept. 7 issued Safety Advisory 2023-04 recommending that railroads use Wheel Impact Load Detectors (WILD) “to properly identify and replace high-impact railcar wheels that could cause significant damage to rails and supporting track structures.”

Ahead of Rail Safety Week, Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) has released a new public service announcement (PSA) in English and Spanish to illustrate the consequences of unsafe choices around railroad tracks and crossings.

“Today, we announced our new four-year agreement with the local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) at the Carrollton Streetcar Barn,” RTA reported in a Sept. 7 Facebook post. “We are excited to continue to partner with our skilled workforce who maintain our buildings and fleet, which allows the RTA to deliver world class transit!” (RTA Photograph)
